Título: Integrated near infrared spectroscopy of Milky Way clusters
Resumo: We present a spectroscopic analysis of the integrated near infrared (NIR) spectra of a sample of MilkyWay globular clusters. The observation was performed with the SOAR telescope attached to Osiris spectrograph in the cross dispersed mode (XD), providing simultaneous wavelength coverage in the range between 1 and 2.35 microns. These are the first integrated NIR spectra reported in the literature for this class of objects. We compare the data with theoretical evolutionary population models available in the literature (Bruzual and Charlotte 2003, Maraston 2005). The Maraston models, by including empirical spectra of carbon and oxygen rich stars, are able to foresee the presence of molecular features like CH, CN and C2. These lines are the spectral signature of young/intermediate stellar population and are enhanced in the near infrared. However, only the continuum shape of the models have been tested with photometric data, essentially the broad bands J, H and K, with the resulting limitations. Our data offer a primary opportunity to compare the theoretical models with actual spectra, and check both the shape and the absorption features present in this spectral range. Preliminary results show that absorption features of MgI 1.4, FeI 1.72, CaI 1.9, CN 2.05, and CO 2.3 microns , are readily detected in the spectra of the following globular clusters: NGC 104, NGC 362, NGC 1851, NGC 2808, NGC 6864, NGC 7078. The observed spectra in general agree with the models, however our spectral resolution is much higher than that of the models. Therefore our data provide a prime opportunity to build the first NIR spectral base for stellar population synthesis of galaxies.
