Título: Study of tidal dwarf galaxies and other young objects formed in mergers/interacting systems

Resumo: Close encounters of spiral galaxies which lead to violent interactions may trigger gas flows to the galaxy centers, enhance star formation, feed the central AGN, then expulse the gas to the outskirts of the system and create new stellar systems which span from small HII regions to Tidal Dwarf Galaxies (TDGs). Tidal dwarf galaxies and other newly born objects are small systems, with low mass, often not even resolved in the images they have been observed so far and not as easy to be identified. These systems have mostly been studied in a serendipetous way, in a one-by-one case. Here we propose to image with broad-band and Halpha filters a sample of interacting systems for a search for newly formed objects. We will also include systems in which we know that these objects are present. We plan to observe the pair Arp 142 (The Penguin) and the AGN present in the nucleus of NGC2936. We also plan to observe other objects such as NGC 3166, Arp 77 and Arp 256, 279, 284, 295. For one of the objects we already have spectroscopy taken with Gemini/Gmos, which will complement this study.
