Projeto Observacional para 2015B - SO2015B-007 Autor: Henrique M Reggiani
Título: Finding bright relics of the early Universe Resumo: Very metal-poor stars are the oldest stellar relics of the early universe and therefore provide direct insight on Big Bang nucleosynthesis, the formation and evolution of our Milky Way, on constraining the nature of the first stars, and on the nucleosynthetic products of the first supernova and hypernova. Although there are several projects hunting for metal-poor stars, they are mostly based on relatively faint targets. This project aims to find bright (V < 13) very metal-poor stars ([Fe/H] < -1.5) in a sample of candidates using medium resolution GOODMAN/SOAR spectra. Bright metal-deficient stars are very important for high-resolution high S/N follow-up detailed studies of their chemistry, such as the cosmological isotopes Li-6 and Li7, Mg isotopic ratios, low- and high-alpha stars in the dual halo, or the use of Th and U for age dating in stars showing enhanced r-process abundances, among other important applications. |
