Albert Bruch acted as Gemini Project Manager. In this function he was responsible for
the daily buisness and the contact between the Brazilian astronomical community and
Gemini. This involved the following activities:
- Participation in the meeting of the Gemini Science Committe (Jan. 2001) in La Serena,
Chile) to discuss the current status and the future of instrument development for Gemini,
as well as operational aspects.
- Participation in a teleconference of the national Gemini Project Managers in order to
discuss aspects of the project management (Aug. 2001)
- A major revision of the NGO/NTAC webpages to furnish the Brazilian astronomical
community with reliable information concerning the application for observing time at
Gemini.
- Reception and first quick-look analysis of the observing time applications from the
Brazilian astronomical community for semesters 2001B and 2002A. This included also the
preparation of the received applications for the NTAC meeting.
- Preparation of the ordered lists of applications, according to the ranking established
by the NTAC and transmission of this list to Gemini for semesters 2001B and 2002A.
- A support progam (``NTACtool'') was developped which facilitates greatly the work of the
NTAC. The major feature of the routine is as follows: After being fed with the notes for
scientific merit and tecnical viability given to the applications by the referees the
routine calculates the ranking of the submitted projects.
- Preparation of the selection process of two volunteers for the participation in the
preparation and execution of Service Mode observations at Gemini South in semester 2001B.
- Preparation of the pre-selection process of a Gemini Stipend.
Albert Bruch acted as coodinator of the CNAPG. The main activities developped in this
function were:
- Coordination of the selection by the members of the CNAPG of two volunteers for the
participation in the preparation and execution of Service Mode observations at Gemini
South in semester 2001B.
- Coordination of the pre-selection by the members of the CNAPG of candidates for a Gemini
Stipend.
Albert Bruch acted as President of the Brazilian NTAC. In this function he prepared and
presided two meetings of the committee (for semesters 2001B and 2002A). The meetings were
realized on 2001, May 13 and 2001, October 29 at the Instituto Astronômico e Geofísicao
of the University of São Paulo.
Albert Bruch acted as Brazilian member of the ITAC. In this function he participated in
two meeting of the ITAC, discussing relevant issues for the observing semesters 2001B and
2002A. The first of them was realized as a tele- and videoconference on 2001 June 15. The
second one took place in La Serena (Chile) and Hilo (Hawaii) on 2001, Dezember 11. The
places were connected by a video link. Albert Bruch participated in La Serena.
Participatation in a workshop about instrumentation for Gemini and SOAR which took
place at the Instituto Astronômico e Geofísico of the University of São Paulo in June
