Título: The rotational fate of our Sun: assessing the limits of gyrochronology relations using ancient solar twins

Resumo: Age is a fundamental parameter in astrophysics. One of the most important age-dating methods is gyrochronology of solar-type stars, which relies on the assumption of a smooth mass-dependent rotational evolution over secular timescales. However, according to recent claims, solar mass stars of about 4 Gyr may experience dramatic structural changes, invalidating the use of gyrochronology for stars older than the Sun. To solve this burning conflict, and assess whether solar-mass & solar-metallicity stars cease to slow down after solar age, we selected a sample of ancient solar twins (6-9 Gyr), in order to monitor with high-cadence and high-S/N spectra their magnetic sensitive lines over their rotation periods. This sample will provide unprecedented constraints to unveil the rotational fate of our Sun. To map the entire rotational phase evolution of these very slow rotators, we plan to spread out the observations over 50-60 days.
